Yukti #106Verse 131
Empowered II
Verse 131ahaṃ mamedam ityādi-pratipatti-prasaṅgataḥ ।
nirādhāre mano yāti tad-dhyāna-preraṇāc chamī ॥In everyday life, when one hears oneself saying phrases like ‘I am…’ or ‘this is mine’, seize the opportunity to inquire [into what these words (‘I’ or ‘my’) refer to]. The mind tries to find a referent, but it cannot. Impelled [toward the truth] by this meditative contemplation, one becomes peaceful.
Simplified Steps
•
Throughout your day, notice when you use the words ‘I’, ‘my’, or ‘mine’
•
On each such occasion, look to see what this concept ‘I’ actually refers to
•
Is the referent different each time, or do you fail to find a referent?
•
If you find no consistent referent of the term ‘I’, what does that tell you?
•
Abide in the space of simple beingness that cannot be reduced to a concept or self-image.
